Intramural Hematoma of the Duodenum

Abstract
|
|
|
A typical case of traumatic intramural duodenal hematoma in 12 year-old boy is reported and a
review of the literature in regard to the cause, diagnosis and treatment of the disease is made.
Recently, the incidence of intramural hematoma of the duodenum seems to be increase.
The diagnosis is usually confirmed by a history of blunt abdominal traum, bile stained vomiting
and by upper gastrointestinal series demonstrating an intramural duodenal mass with a coli-spring
mucosal pattern overlying the mocosa.
The treatment of intramural duodenal hematoma consists of conservative and surgical therapy.
Simple evacuation of the hematoma through an incision placed on the serosa is the safe and
satisfactory method when a tial of conservative therapy is failed.
